Summary: Oversee day to day transportation operation including supervision of drivers, transportation leads, and dispatchers. This supervisory role also includes creation of delivery routes and schedules, store order processing, and switcher operation. The supervisor supports the Transportation Manager in other projects as required. The Transportation Supervisor is the third step in the leadership progression in transportation. They should have the capability to become transportation manager.
Duties:
Maximize equipment and driver utilization complying with DOT and all other legal regulations.
Confirm daily store route efficiency to maximize cube within regulations.
Confirm manpower protocol is followed.
Oversee the switcher operation to minimize warehouse wait times and to maintain optimal switcher performance standards.
Communicate with stores, warehouses, vendors, logistics, and others to ensure world class customer service and efficient transportation operations.
Timely processing of vacation sheets, driver delays, driver payroll, and periodic reporting.
Know company policy, procedures, and standards to make sure they are being followed by all transportation associates. Take corrective action when necessary. This action may require coaching.
Know transportation systems, Prospero, Samsura, MDS, TMT, and Gas Boy. Use of this data is required for a transportation supervisor.
Ability to Present in Quarterly Driver Meeting.
Develop an ability to foresee issues in transportation and distribution operations to prevent them from occurring.
Competency:
Knowledge of DOT and Harris Teeter safety and security regulations and policies.
Oral and Written Communication Skills – writes and speaks clearly and informatively.
Customer Service Skills a must.
Good interpersonal skills needed for day to day operations as well as training.

Education/Experience:
Two year transportation, logistics or supply chain management degree preferred or distribution/transportation experience equivalent.
Computer and math skills needed to successfully perform this job. Basic computer skills should include Microsoft Word and Excel. Computer skills should also include the ability to learn transportation systems.
Math skills should include basis math skills needed for distribution systems as well as developing costing models.
Certificates and Licenses: Possess commercial driver’s license preferred.
