Merchandising Analyst - Temporary Position Up to 6 Months

Summary:  Supports the Analytics Team by developing and delivering merchandising, pricing, financial, and customer behavior reports and analyses.  Maintains data quality through the development and monitoring of business processes.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

 
  • Publish and maintain business intelligence reporting, dashboards, and scorecards to accurately identify trends and opportunities across the following areas:
    • Business performance versus forecast and goals
    • Profit performance versus forecast and goals
    • Operational controls
    • Promotional planning and evaluation
    • Space planning and management
    • Product Assortment planning
    • Inventory planning and control
    • Vendor reporting/projects
    • Customer behavior and category interaction
    • Competitive pricing analysis
 
  • Gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations for the areas mentioned above.
 
  • Conduct special projects to analyze complex operational and financial actions and prepares recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action for the merchandising team.
 
  • Recommend cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies.
 
  • Establish and/or maintain databases and support IS in developing databases of pertinent information for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts.
 
  • Understand how data is captured and maintained, specifically as it relates to business activities and processes.
 
  • Assist the Analytics Team in maintaining data accuracy and data quality in merchandising source systems and reporting systems.
 
 
  • Perform other duties as may be required or assigned.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent; Completion of MBA or Master’s level course-work preferred. Or a minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 
Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and professional journals.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues and management.

 
Math Ability:

This position must have the ability to apply advanced mathematical and statistical concepts.

 
Reasoning Ability:

This position must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 
Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge that can be demonstrated of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Presentation software; Internal merchandising software; Inventory software; Internet software; Order processing systems; and Database software.  Specific experience with Microsoft Access query building, SQL code, and Microstrategy reporting are essential.
